The colder days are approaching fast and when it comes time to go dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, you’ll want a pair of excellent winter socks on; or it may not be o’er the fields you go.
Recently, we discussed options for winter running socks, but now we will expand upon that and look into eight solid choices you can make come this winter.
1. Wigwam Canada Crew Socks
Wigwam Canada Crew Socks are the thickest and warmest sock you’ll find in Wigwam’s arsenal. This is a sock not meant for athletic pursuits, but designed for those bitterly cold days. Consider the Canada Crew when you have to go out and shovel the driveway or take the kids sledding. A fortified sole, conventional toe closure, and stay put leg all help make this sock one of the best options when that snow starts to fall.
2. Bridgedale Endurance Trekker
The Bridgedale Endurance Trekker is a medium-cushioned sock that warms like a heavy-cushioned sock. Even though they’re designed for hikers trekking through cold locations, you can sport Bridgedale for any cold-related occasion. With WoolFusion technology, you’ll get the warmth plus excellent moisture-wicking capabilities. Get the warmth without much bulk!
3. Fox River Norwegian Crew Socks
Made of Ragg wool, the Fox River Norwegian Crew Socks will keep you warm and comfortable while providing you with the performance and the durability you need. In September of 2010, the Norwegian Crew was featured in GQ as a modern version of returning classic styles. Stay warm and look stylish all winter long with the Norwegian Crew. No need to worry about it shrinking either, its stretch nylon core helps it retain shape, wash after wash.
4. Darn Tough Coolmax Hike-Trek Cushion Socks
Darn Tough Coolmax Hike-Trek Cushion Socks provide a snug-fit, medium-cushioned sock with lots of durability. Although intended for hiking, this sock is a personal favorite, and my go-to choice to wear to the office or when I’m on the go in the winter. These socks don’t slip one bit, so no need to worry about having to pull your socks up when you’re out in the cold. Get through those tough winters with Darn Tough.
5. Feetures Pure Comfort Medium Cushion
Feetures is another brand I’ll find any excuse to slap on my feet at any given time. While the Feetures Pure Comfort are designed to be a performance hiking sock, they’re also a great sock to be wearing around the house during the cold days of winter. The soft cushioned feel of these socks make you forget all about the dreadful cold and bring your feet nothing but comfort and warmth.
6. Just About Any SmartWool Sock
SmartWool is one of the most recognized and adored sock brands around, and rightfully so. The Merino wool comfort is outstanding, which is why it’s hard to go wrong with SmartWool in the winter. I remember when I was wearing a relatively light SmartWool sock during a drive into work when the car still wasn’t heated up and my feet were probably the warmest part of my body. Now, if you get into more of their athletic socks, yeah that may not be the most ideal winter sock. However, with superior moisture, temperature and odor control, it’s hard to pass up a SmartWool sock when the snow is a-fallin’.
7. Fits Rugged Hiker Crew Socks
While the brand name isn’t as recognizable as some of the others, Fits Rugged Hiker Crew Socks will keep your feet just as warm and comfy as the others. This sock is even a SocksAddict.com staff pick. Made for the trails, but worn everywhere, Fits Rugged Hiker Crew gets the job done with Merino wool and it fits like a glove. Stay warm all winter with Fits.
8. Wigwam 40 Below
As you can probably guess by the name, The Wigwam 40 Below Socks were made for the cold. If you’re about to be out in the cold for a long time, these are the socks you want on. With full cushioning throughout the entire sock, Wigwam 40 Below presents you with a bulkier sock that will really keep you warm during the coldest of conditions. The 40 Belows are perfect for those long and cold treks or just when it’s ridiculously cold.
